New state climatologist deciphers Colorado’s conditions

Russ Schumacher, Associate Professor of Atmospheric Science, Director of the Climate Center and Colorado State Climatologist, Colorado State University.

It’s raining science in the office of Russ Schumacher, an associate professor in the Department of Atmospheric Science who recently became Colorado state climatologist. In the role, he is a key statewide expert and spokesperson – and he can expect a flood of questions from news reporters and the public about the state’s unique weather and climate. Schumacher is editor of the American Meteorological Society’s Month- ly Weather Review. As state climatologist, he leads the Colorado Climate Center, the CSU-based office that provides climate monitoring and research for the benefit of scientists, educators, and the public. Schumacher succeeds Nolan Doesken, a widely respected expert who recently retired.
